I spend about £10 a week for the little feathered ones. Some of the bigger feathered ones join in too. They come and tap on the window if I#m late feeding them. A fair few of them live in my back hedge all year round.
always buy all sorts of things for the little birds but soooo many rooks and seagulls so let them just get on with it. also feed the tameish pheasnts that wander round the garden.
I don't know what you mean by a 'real lot of money', but we have several 'fast food outlets' for the birds dotted around - and I think we keep the squirrels going too!
There used to be a lady on our estate that started feeding the birds and squirrels and then ended up buying so much food for them at the local pet shop that they had to deliver it by van every week.
My OH spends too much on nuts, seed, fat balls, and niger seed for the goldfinches. I mix melted suet, mealworms, grated apple, dried fruit, cooked rice or pasta,in an old saucepan, and fill coconut halve with it .. Its amazing how fast the bloomin starlings know its here! Also any leftover cake crusts etc . Old bread thrown out for the crows on the other side of the house. We seem to have very fat birds here!
We do although I'd hardly call it a lot of money. We are rewarded by lots of birds in the garden. Having two ornithologists in the family - it's a 'given' really!
