We have just bought a new rabbit, its a pure rex, lovely little bunny. I have 2 children 2 and 3 years and was wondering on the best way to tame it as everytime i go to pick it up it seems really frightened?

The whole HRS website is full of great resources for any rabbit owner.

By the way, as I posted a few days ago, most rabbits will never tolerate being picked up. And young children should never try to lift a rabbit, for both their and the rabbit's safety. Trust me ;-)

Hi,

Make friends with the rabbit whilst its still on the ground - feed it, stroke it and give treats etc until its comfortable around you. Once this happens you may be able to pick it up. Rabbits are never happy unless they are properly supported and I agree with the statments regarding young children!

sorry, just kidding. long day.
most rabbits do not like being picked up but at times you have to so always ...talk quietly near or to it. stroke it gently first to gain its trust.  when you do pick it up make sure you hold and support its back legs... when they panic they kick and can break their backs or cause themselves some other bad injury.  we always pick ours up and hold them close to our chest with one hand holding its back legs.   hope this advice helps.
