I live in a very nice town in West London, expensive houses, yummy mummies.... I've lived here all my life and am not one of the 'rich' newbies that have moved into the area. Our High Road has a new shop opening this week, a Poundland! I for one cannot wait, but blimey the response from residents on our local website is shocking... They are up in arms! Talking of house prices dropping, all sorts of 'unsuitable people' walking around, an eyesore on the High Road...
Do you think half these people have any idea about the real world?

Sorry, but what is Poundland?
Next door to the 99p shop, Baldric.
I don't think ANY of them have the slightest idea knowabit ! But I wouldn't mind betting that a lot of them will be found in the Pound Shop. You will be able to recognise them by the dark glasses concealing their identity !
I went in a Poundland once
We have charity shops where I live where stuff costs more than a pound!

Thank you Tony, so upmarket then!
It'll be like Aldi, Knowabit.....oh the people who wouldn't be seen dead in Aldi at one time......including many of my friends...and who do I bump into there now?....☺
cupes, you could start a petition for a Poundland.
Our snobs were apoplectic (Charles fav word) over Tesco. Swore they wouldnt shop there blah blah. The car park is chokko ;)

Thank you Tony, so upmarket then!

Correct, Baldric.
Baldric's post reminds me of the statement that was made at the Lady Chatterley trial ...." Is it a book that you would even wish your wife or your servants to read ?”
It happens in many so called 'high class' towns - then once they've had a peek they are hooked.

It is all about perception.

What made me laugh most was that it was previously a McDonalds, and they were all sooooo happy when it closed down.
Love it. Snobs do my head in. Got to say though you don't have to be wealthy to be a snob.
The problem with Poundland is that none of the items have a price on them ...
'High class' town mamya......Royal Borough & no complaints from HRHs
and sometimes it's embarrassing when the assistant at the till points out it's actually 2 for £1 on the item you want, + you have to dash back to the shelves to grab another, lol! ;)
