How do you litter train a rabbit?

We have two 18 month old house-rabbits who use their litter trays only less than 50% of the time, usually preferring the floor in our conservatory.

They sometimes spend all day in the garden and wait until they come back into the house to have a wee on the carpet.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I feel bad that no one seems to be in tune enough with rabbits here to answer your question...so, though I have never had a rabbit, let me suggest something if I may....

try to litter-train your rabbit just as you would a kitten...I'm sure they'll work the same way. You must first place the litter box in an easy-to-get-to place and then show your rabbit the box many times, place him inside it and tell it "wee-wee here".

After some time of catching him during or before doing his business and carrying him to the litter box, the little bunny may catch on to what your trying to teach him and begin to seek out the box before going.

good luck!

I have a house rabbit. We haven't managed to train him not to poo on the floor but he will wee in the box. We started training him from when we first had them though, I hope yours aren't too old now! Anyway, what we did was we took the soiled bedding from the cage and put it into the litter tray so he could smell it and stuff. Rabbits tend to go in one place in the cage anyway.
hi
i just moved the litter tray to where ever they seemed to wee the most and when i was quick enough to catch them in the act simply put them in the litter tray.
they are not really that difficult, rabbits are more intelligent then people realise.
good luck
