Dogs And Arthritis

I heard about a drug the other day for the treatment of arthritis in dogs that I hadn't heard of.

I don't know if it is a new drug or if it is in use in the UK (Pete works in the Dublin area) but it is worth bearing in mind if your dog is suffering. http://www.cartrophen.com/ -

yes cartrophen is one of the options used in the Uk for treating arthritis in dogs.

I have to admit that it is a while since I shared my life with a dog. Robbie did have arthritis - but apart from taking extra time to get going in the morning he was fine.

Hi Wolfy,
My cat (No. 1 Son) has been on Cartrophen for about a year for his arthritic shoulder - he has an injection of it once a month at the vet, and in between he has a dose of Loxicom by mouth at home every morning. If Cartrophen works on dogs as well as it does for us, it's excellent - he's boinging around the house, playing, no evident pain or stiffness at all these days.

It is good if a drug has minimal side effects.

Are you only down to one cat Boxy? I thought that you still had two.

Merlin has a knot on her neck that I plan to remove, she hates being brushed (her hair is long and silky). I might try teasing it out and if that fails get her with the scissors. She usually has beautiful fur but has a habit of over-licking in one area and it clumps.

We still have the two, weolf - No, 1 Son and Black Spot. The house is much more tranquil since we lost Rover - No. 1 Son has refound his inner kitten, all the toys are all over the floor and he's yarooing round the house again.

I bet that they were 'over-joyed' when Rover returned from his long vacation near the Vet's surgery. Sometimes you think that cats are getting on okay - but they are all stressed out and thee is maybe some bullying going on.

Sadly, you're right, wolf. Rover was so loving to the humans, and such a character, that he dominated No 1 Son without our realising it (and No 1 Son can be a bit of a wuss anway...) Things are so very much happier on the cat-floor now!
