Quite a lot of butterflies appeared in my garden today, now that the weathers improving and the days are getting longer.
They seem ahead of the wild flowers this year, I was glad that I had plenty of forgetmenots, lungwort and primroses around to keep them happy.

First one to catch my eye was a brimstone, then comma, peacock, tortoise shell and an almost black one that didn't stay still long enough for me to id it.

Roll on summer!

I too saw butterflies yesterday when I entered the garden shed there were 4 of them stretching their wings as if they had just hatched out, I left the door open all day but to-day there were still 2 there whether the same ones or two more hatchlings I do not know, but they were lovely. I've seen a few tortoiseshells last few days too, I'd expect they're those who have over-wintered successfully.

I agree Prudie, it was a relatively mild winter in most places, it seems, hopefully many have survived.
Chipchopper..Down her in Somerset we have seen butterflies and a few bees and bumble bees....very early I thought...lets hope it doesnt turn cold again.I love spring.!
Not seen a comma yet but we've seen the others and also a green veined white. Also found a Mallard with ten little chicks in the local canal. Spring has sprung.
Hav'nt seen a butterfly or bee yet but have seen a few ladybirds today.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an orange tip now.

Most of the ladybirds I've seen, so far have been inside the bathroom window, most mornings I let a couple out and they soon fly off.
The ladybirds that I saw today were outside.
I've had a couple of red admirals fluttering around in the house, expect they've been hibernating in here, let them out into the sunshine.

Julia,
That was a good idea to leave the shed door open, to allow them to exit.

I've seen some good patches of primroses this year too! but not any dandelions so far, just the odd daisy. They say its truly spring when you can cover five daisies with your foot, my size tens can't cut the mustard yet ;-)
