Genes are the instructions contained within chromosomes. They determine all physical aspects of an animals make up. Gene Pool is an expression used to denote all humans with reproductive capability. In other words all the genes available in a given population. For example, I'm of reproductive age and so is my wife, so we're both in the gene pool. My children are pre puberty so they're not yet in the gene pool.
