Violets/bluebells.

Probably eight years ago, a friend gave me a clump of violets from her garden, along with some bluebell clumps.

The violets are stunning, this year, all over my very big garden. The bluebells have kept themselves to themselves and have stayed in their area.

So much for shrinking violets!

I'm not complaining. I love violets.

I hardly ever see native bluebells these days. I bought some supposedly native bluebells and when they grew, the were the Spanish ones. As a child in Devon, I used to pick wild violets. I haven`t seen those for years either.

We have some lovely bluebell woods in this area, 237. They are beautiful.

Would you like a clump of my violets?

That would be lovely Tilly but I can`t keep flowering plants. You have to be there to water them and I`m not...

I don't water them. They just appear, like magic. (Along with the weeds)

You should be thankful to the ants and slugs in your garden, which help with seed dispersal of your violets.

Lots of ants but not much evidence of slugs.

You want evidence of slugs, grow some tomatoes on your patio or in the garden.

I grew tomatoes last year OG. No evidence of slugs. I have hedgehogs, maybe that's why. ;-)

The slugs get our hosta's every year :-(

I've stopped growing Hosta's, they're just slug bait.

Doesn't it work, putting gravel around the base of Hostas, Chip?

I'd say, not one iota, slugs can handle rough terrain.

Well, I just think they have evolved to transverse all terrain, especially if there is a nice (hosta) reward in the offing.

I spend enough money, feeding the birds. I'm not going to spend money feeding slugs. :-)
