Wolf63 asked (on a now deleted thread) about advice on NHS complaints, so I'm posting this link here in the hope that she sees it:

If anyone else who sees this thread has any experience of complaining about NHS services, I'm sure that Wolf63 would be glad to hear about it.

Bednobs - we are in Scotland. My brain is not working very well today and I have had problems writing this query. Here is a brief question.
Friend's husband was due to get an op on his back Tuesday past. He turned up and they decided to send him for more physio as there was a change in his pain location (they knew this weeks ago) and op has been deferred.
The pain he is suffering in severe and he can't work, sleep or anything else. He is quite a bit upset about this.
Is the complaints system designed to cover this sort of problem - with a view to getting his op sooner? Compensation of £3million would be nice too.
I realise that the NHS has limitations and they can't perform miracles but sometimes they don't treat their patients very well.
Your job would have been 'fun' - people have unrealistic expectations of the NHS. I worked for DWP and I can't explain to you how much I don't miss that place.
Thanks for any help that you can give. If we get the £3million you can get a share. :-D

complaining is unlikely to make th op any quicker - it sounds like there is a very valid reason to postpone it. It's the manner in which it was postponed that's not great - very late when the information was available before the last minute.
The priority is to get him pain relief - what is his GP doing about that?
A complaint may well be in order - the NHS in england has a complaints procedure and a structured investigation route. He can do it by phone, email or letter

Bednobs, thanks. He was just so keyed up for this OP (and the end of pain) only for it to be cancelled after getting to the hospital.
I just couldn't manage to think the problem through. I hate seeing my friend worry so much about her oh. She has been the one who has stood by me and supported me with my Manic Depression. I have a brother, who I love, but ... that's another story
Thanks to both of you. X
