Getting Another Chihuahua
63 Answers
we allready have a female , she is 3 yrs old , dont know what that is in dog yrs but anyway .
daughter wants another dog, a puppy, male .
will they fight is the question. what is our dog doesnt take to him ?
what way to introduce to her ?
she lives in a large cage at night , she loves to sleep inside her cage.
if we did buy a new dog could we put him inside or gradually put him in after weeks ?
will they eventually breed ?
also, there is a miniture Dachshund for sale , bit expensive at 600 quid, daughter loves him , would they make a good mix if bred later on in years to come

Adult dogs rarely harm a puppy - provided you don't let the puppy pester her and give her time away either by putting her or the puppy in a crate. I would use a seperate crate at first for nights but you may well find they curl up together in one during rest periods anyway. As for breeding, yes they would if you got a dog puppy and they are capable from about six months old! Better to have the *** spayed or get the dog castrated when he is older. If you do intend to breed then you need to check on pedigrees to ensure they are not already closely related. Speak to the breeder of the pup and let them know and they will make sure there are no reasons not to breed from him. As for £600 for a Dachshund that is cheap - a fully health tested one would be around £1000 these days (they do suffer from eye problems as well as backs). Please also don't be tricked into buying a 'miniature' Chihuahua - they are or should be all Miniature! Its the bigger ones that are incorrect. Feed a puppy frequently too as they can suffer from hypoglycaemia if their blood sugar drops from feeds too far apart.
