Wow!......Caught sight of one of these beautiful moths on my lawn this morning.
When it was in flight, the fore wings were the most vivid scarlet I'd ever seen, they seemed to glow in the morning sun, like glowing embers.
When it settled on the grass, the chocolate brown and cream markings just blended into the background. If I hadn't seen it settle, I wouldn't have known it was there.
Makes a nice change from the small drab brown jobs that I usually see, that like to make holes in my clothing!
Well hereiam, after seeing the moth, I thought it was worthy of a mention but soon after, my post got snowed under by other posts and seemed to have been lost in the ether. I was just happy to see that at least someone had bothered to reply.
Thanks Chip.
Good point Tilly, I hadn't really thought about it that much until I started seeing some lepidoptra that was a first time for me.
I shall report my findings to 'the big butterfly count' (14th of July - 6th of August) Thanks.
Chip, I always find your posts interesting as I too love nature, butterflies, moths and so on and love it when I see a beauty. I saw a stunning blue butterfly the other day, it wasn't a Common Blue, but not really sure what it was.
I used to know the names of all the common butterflies when I was a child. It was because I collected the cards from packets of ....tea...?
I seem to have forgotten all the names now and can't tell a Painted Lady from a Red Admiral. I have to look them up. I took a nice photograph of a Comma butterfly the other day.
I seen a lovely blue butterfly a few weeks ago, walking back from my daughter's house. I just stopped in my tracks as it landed on a flowers bush in a garden. I was just caught up on the moment admiring it and thinking how magically wonderful all butterflies are. Two women happen to pass by looking at me as if I were mad!
