Wash a cat?
5 Answers
We have a stray cat who has over the last 2 years started to stay at our house more and more. Since our elderly neighbour died, he's more or less a permanent fixture (I think she was one of his main stop offs before!). He's a lovely cat and our two cats tolerate him. The only thing is he stinks of pee. He's a full tom. Is there a way of cleaning him? Someone has done so in the past as he sometimes came in smelling of shampoo but I don't know how they managed it. He's quite a placid cat but I don't know how much he'd stand for.
Any suggestions??

Grooming will help to stop a general smell, but toms will spray and do tend to get splashed in the process. tomcat pee tends to be pungent too! Neutering might help as it would change the compostion of his urine and lessen the spraying behaviour. short term, try wiping him over with a special pet wipe (about 2 quid a pack from supermarkets and petshops) if he likes to roll over and have his tum tickeled it will make it easier to wipe over the areas that catch the splashback as it were. He is likely to tolerate it better if the wipe is warm, lay the sealed pack in the airring cupboard or on a radiator to take the chill off.
To Brida. The only way to get the cat not to smell so much is to get him Neutered. When they need neutering their pee smells strong because of hormones in it. Its a wonder that your other cats are tolerating him Maybe they are females? If you do not get him neutered he will keep wandering a lot and trying to make more baby cats.
