Puppy For Christmas

A friend of mine is getting a puppy for Christmas, well picking the pup up a few days before. I once heard that reputable breeders refuse to breed pups in time for Christmas to reduce the chance of them needing to get rehomed by people seduced by having a puppy at this time of year but not realising what a commitment it is.

Whilst my friend is going to make an excellent 'dog father' I wondered what everyone else's thoughts were on this. Should puppies be allowed as Christmas presents?

Wow, two different autocorrects for the same word!
Remember that a puppy is not just for Xmas. With a bit of luck there'll be some left over for Boxing Day.

(Not the Nine O'clock News)
Never ever buy from a breeder, always rescue. Let's put breeders out of business, too many dogs not enough homes !!
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-proposals-on-puppy-welfare - no reputable breeder would advertise a litter for rehoming at Christmas - yes some will let puppies go to new homes if they know the people beforehand but selling to strangers is a no no at this time of year. Nothing wrong with buying a puppy from a reputable breeder provided you do it the right way but so many people want an instant puppy and will buy from the internet without even seeing the pup or the mother till the pup is delivered. When will people learn that most internet puppies are bred by puppy farmers either in this country or nowadays abroad.
not just internet buyers lankeela. There is a breeder round here known for selling them from a sign on his farm gate :( You turn up with cash and are handed a puppy.
