Hurrah! Saw the first swifts of the year yesterday 3rd May, swooping over my village. What a cheering sight:
"They've made it again,
Which means the globe's still working "

What?

Migrants arriving in this country from Africa?

Get ready for the howls of protest here on AB!

(It's lovely to see them though, GG).
My favourite birds, we had some yesterday too, screeching round like a squadron of little fighter jets
Sadly I wouldn't know where to find a swift, and wouldn't recognise one if it came up to me carrying a banner saying,"I am a swift".
Will have to remain satisfied with the little fat blackbird, (a bird - it is black), that lives in the bushes in our overgrown garden.

Look up, Theland, look up - and listen for their joyous screams
Waiting for the swallows to come back, they nest in our garage every year. Bit of dive bombing, a bit of ranting at us for going into their garage happens every year.

Surprised the swallows aren't back yet, mazie, they usually make it before the swifts. Could they have gone elsewhere?
Thanks for that.
Must look in the graveyard next door tomorrow, and if I spot one, I will impress Mrs T when I return home and say, "Guess what I just saw?"
Cheers.
I hope not GG , I will miss them :0( x
Lots of swallows on Norfolk Broads two weeks ago and swifts last Saturday at Rainham Marshes, Essex.
Life can be so good :-)
Yeay! I saw a fleeting glimpse of what appeared to be a house martin, flying high above my garden.
It was silhouetted but didn't seem to have the long forked tail of the swallow and was too small for a swift.
The swallows have arrived GG. I noticed them yesterday :0) x
