Cats Remember

When Stripes was a kitten, we threw small sticks into a little stream at the end of our garden, which he then rushed to retrieve.
For the next 16 years, until he died, what did Stripes carry 40 yards up the garden, in his mouth, and leave in our kitchen? (Every day).
A stick.
Sometimes I take one of his sticks out of the box, and my heart swells, my eyes fill, as I think of his loving presents.

I typed up a huge post but then realised that some people are unable to be empathic and the pain experienced by other people is ignored or belittled. Cats are like Marmite - you either love them and let them take over your life or you see them as evil predators (which is true) who do not deserve to exist.

bainbrig, its so hard to lose a beloved pet. My beautiful intelligent and very 'regal' cat was killed on 4th July age just 10. She would wait at the cat flap for the staff to open if for her, yet could return with her 'presents' often a rabbit over half her size, without any help. I still think I can hear her bell, and admit I choked up in the supermarket when I passed the pet food section where I bought her (very special) food. They leave us very special memories and at least we know they were cared for and had the very best of lives x
While I’m telling you tales of Stripes, here’s another:
My partner was gardening in our front patch (no wall, no hedge), while Stripes dozed in the border. Along the road came a neighbour with his Alsatian dog - no lead, just trotting free.
Stripes jumped up and ran to a position between Mrs B and the dog, as if to say “If you want a go at her, then you deal with me first,” and watched the dog as it trotted past and away.
A bold and loving friend was Stripes.

Mcfluff : My cat used to sit in the Hall and wait until I'd made my bed so she could sleep on it all day. If it wasn't made by 9.30 am she would make it quite clear I was a sloppy huzzy and give me the evil eye until I fluffed up the pillows and drew up the duvet. I still do it now before 9.30 but with a big lump in my throat.
I really hope that the removed answers were not offensive or thoughtless comments. I thought that the 'only a cat' comments disappeared years ago.
My two cats are not 'just' cats - they are people in little furry bodies who like to boss me around.
Mcfluff - Murphy will always be there - she will come back and haunt you.

Wolf the comments were very upsetting and directed at my beautiful cat who was killed a few weeks ago.
OUr pets remain with us in thought and spirit. A few days after my cats death we found a white feather in our house, then one out in the garden where she used to sunbathe. I know for the moment she is still here, we had her cremated and her ashes are in a lovely 'sleeping cat' casket in the window where she used to sit.
