Cats Remember
49 Answers
When Stripes was a kitten, we threw small sticks into a little stream at the end of our garden, which he then rushed to retrieve.
For the next 16 years, until he died, what did Stripes carry 40 yards up the garden, in his mouth, and leave in our kitchen? (Every day).
A stick.
Sometimes I take one of his sticks out of the box, and my heart swells, my eyes fill, as I think of his loving presents.

I typed up a huge post but then realised that some people are unable to be empathic and the pain experienced by other people is ignored or belittled. Cats are like Marmite - you either love them and let them take over your life or you see them as evil predators (which is true) who do not deserve to exist.

AuntLydia - some people hate cats but there is never any excuse for being nasty when someone's family member has died.
I was more upset when both my dogs and then my cat died than when my parents died. Our little friends are there, in our houses, every day and they are missed so much when they die.
My two are currently ignoring me - until I return home with supplies.

OK, so whilst we are at it, we can have a go at foxes, owls, buzzards, sparrowhawks, kestrels, minks, otters, osprey, stoats, weasels, magpies, squirrels....... Plus there are idiots who have dogs who allow them to attack other dogs plus humans, cats and other wildlife.
That is not the point though HereIam. The point of this thread is about people who love their pets and who have lost pets. It doesnt matter whether that pet was a cat, a dog, a ferret, or a snake. The pain is the same.
If you lost your pet, or posted a thread like this I have no doubt many of us would be sympathetic and supportive.

A nice thread spoiled by two posters who should respect people's feelings and understand that pets, whatever they are, are part of people's families. I hate rats, and hamsters make me weak at the knees, but if someone came on remembering with affection their pet rat or hamster the first thing on my mind would never ever be to criticise their choice of pet. Why people feel the need to add to the heartbreak of losing a pet, by disparaging and hurtful comments says more about their pitiful lives than those of our beloved and cherished pets.
I know things move on, but my original title was “cats remember” (not ‘remembered’)...
I wanted to point out what good memories cats have!
Another one, Clarissa, used to visit me five or six years back, then I didn’t see her for years, and thought she’d moved away or worse. She was never my cat, and lived down the road somewhere.
Then a couple of months ago she turned up at my back door, and the look of recognition and affection was wonderful. We were just delighted to meet again!
People think cats forget - they don’t.

Hereiam fill yer boots: my lovely companion cat caught baby rabbits only a few weeks old usually bitten in half, sometimes no heads sometimes just the guts left on the kitchen floor. Occasionally alive and were rescued by me but probably died a slow death through shock....Hope that did not upset you dear. It's called nature.
