One of our cats has started messing in the house. He’s mostly an indoor cat and has three litter trays in the basement which he has easy access to. It’s happening on an almost daily basis. There is no ‘favoured’ spot, he does it anywhere! Our other cat (his brother), is fine and goes outside. They are approx 15 years old and in good health. Any advice would be welcome.

is he poorly ?
Something might have upset him or it could be a health problem. Has anything changed in the home or neighbourhood. He's elderly so feline dementia is a possibility.
could be Rowan
Moving a litter tray to the room he spends most time in although unpleasant might help
wee trip to vet to check ?

No, he’s not ill. He had his annual check up three months ago and vet said he’s fine. Nothing’s changed at home and he doesn’t go out. Don’t really want to move litter tray to the bedroom for obvious reasons!
We have had a cat that had dementia but she never did this, she just thought it was feeding time as soon as she saw anyone lol.
Probably take him back to the vet next week.
Thanks all.
Closing the bedroom door would avoid having a dirt box in the bedroom.
Have a look through this information and see if gives you any clues as to why he is doing this.
