I have tried googling this, but can anyone think of a bird that makes a ‘peep peep’ sound at night (and only at night). Could it be a baby owl of some sort (there are lots of owls about)?

Possibly an owl. Probably not a baby owl at this time of year

Thanks both - it’s a double ‘peep’ rather than a single one (I’m crap on birds but strangely interested in what they are). We’re very lucky here - I saw the most ginormous owl last week, in the daytime - being mobbed by crows - I knew there was something huge about but have never been able to see it as close.
I love wee birdies!!!

Soooo many starlings here i love watching them xx

Hi Tinks, just from my sofa I get to see all sorts - my favs are the red kites and the titchy wren. Can’t encourage them too much as we’ve got a cat.
Hey sherr!!

I put up a feeding station last week but no visitors yet!!

I had one wee feeder before that was well used but for some reason no joy yet... xx
It needs "breaking in" tinker bell. Once they realise it's there and it's safe they'll flock back hopefully - can take a week or two in my experience.
Aw thank you Canary! Nice to know!!

I had a fat ball holder on my fence but moved it to the stand now.... hopefully they come soon I want a garden like something from snow white LOL!!!!!!!!

Ps i have water & fatballs & seeds & peanuts the whoooole shebang xx
Probably redwings.
That would be my suggestion too as they feed by day and move at night using contact calls to keep the group together. They have a sharp peep peep call. Yep redwings
I was thinking 'crow'
If it was beep beep Id say the roadrunner, as in the cartoon!
Long tailed tits make a 'peep peep' sound. I know you said at night, but it's like the dawn chorus at night here now when I take my dog out, they're all getting excited about spring !

Thanks all - I’ll have to get my bird book out and see what I can spot during the daytime.
