... so didn't take my 'seasonal cold and cough' to my GP - there's burger-all that they can do about short-term viral infections and it would be a waste of time/money/resources and I certainly didn't want any (ineffective) antibiotics.

But today the throat pain escalated from 'manageable' to 'rather awful' and so I was packed off to the GP by a determined small Irish person - and (whilst you may moan - and I did) it's easier to do as you're told.

It took my kindly GP nearly a minute to diagnose 'a nice classic case of almost certainly bacterial tonsillitis', to give me a bollocking for not coming sooner and to prescribe some amoxicillin ...

Gness has just opined that if they cure the pain, but leave the loss of voice, then life would be perfect ...

So, dave, not much sympathy there, is there?
As far as sympathy goes, I'd accept that as the going rate Santa Dave.

Get well soon X (from a distance)
Oh Dave I have similar problems with getting mrs Tony to visit GP, the normal excuse is I'll be OK tomorrow, this normally lasts for 3 days, when she needs stronger meds and takes longer to recover.
Wishing you a speedy & comfy recovery, Dave ;-)

Legs it...
I'm just wondering how Santa's Little Helper managed that cos I'd quite like the details (asking for a friend).
How to live dangerously Maj, brave...or foolhardy.
Ouch :( I hope you feel a lot better soon. I did similar recently, kept soldiering on until a routine GP appointment, mentioned I'd been feeling under the weather. I think the phrase was "your tonsils are HUGE", left with tonsillitis and pleurisy. So many bugs about at the moment. Keep warm, take care and feel much better soon x
Oh dear, I do hope you feel better soon. I also hope that Gness has prescribed two to three spoonfuls of yoghurt to be taken with each amoxicillin or is she leaving you to deal with the inevitable consequences the drug has on your stomach?
His flippin' cold has been wandering about for about ten days now. This morning he woke me up to inspect his big white lumps......no that is not a euphemism.....romance, eh?... :-(

Much as I was enjoying the bliss of not having to listen to him singing Christmas carols in the style of Brian Bloody Blessed I decided it was time for the doctor.....I did that by telling him I would take over the cooking if he didn't go.......he beat the doctor back to the surgery after lunch.

GP, who lives in the next field, told him he'd probably pass it on to me so I should pop in to the surgery.......that won't happen. I'm on the Manuka honey and hot whiskey.......much more enjoyable than what he's got to take......but I may get him on the yoghurt, Maydup...there is only so much man moaning a girl can take..... :-)
p.s.........LiK....... run!
Ah...
You have a GP who lives in a field! Only in Ireland.
Yes, Zacs.......we live in one field....he's in the next field behind the Corkies..that's how the postie finds us all...... :-)
Handy.
Good thing you were packed off, get well soon Dave.
Speedy recovery ,Dave.x
As long as the return of the voice is very, very slow, Marval......it really is bliss....the silence.....the no more sudden bursts of Silent Night.... Silent Night???? Not when he's at full throttle...... :-(
Well I wouldn't go that far, Patsy......just a day at a time.....until maybe Easter?
That soon, huh?... :-)
Hoping Easter's late next year..... :-)
