Lovely breed but sadly many poorly bred ones suffer from health problems - their lifespan can be from as young as six/seven to around ten, with very few living into their teens. They suffer from heart problems and also bone/joint conditions. They need a lot of looking after as youngsters to prevent problems developing, with the correct food and supplements to ensure their big frame grows in the right way. Unfortunately there are some backyard breeders who don't care about health and churn out puppies to fulfill the demand, and their owners end up with huge vet bills and often lose their dogs very young. The breed clubs will guide you to reputable breeders who care about the health of their breed.
