Mystery White Grub (photo)

Photo taken in Scotland quite recently. Long white grub, reddish brown front (face). several sets of legs at the front (maybe the back too).

As you can see the moth is a stunner but the caterpillar is a nasty little beast. It's up to 40mm in length, spends the winter underground where it does considerable damage to crops, feeding on the roots of young trees and burrowing into bulbs and rhizomes.
