I was delighted to see a small flock of goldfinches on my mini meadow area feeding on the seed heads of lesser knapweed.
Later I saw some magpies in the park, which appeared to be feeding discarded food scraps to jackdaws, never seen that before.

Envy you the goldfinches Chip, lovely.

Would love to have seen the interaction between the magpies and the jackdaws LOL.
We have many goldfinches this year - their song is uplifting. I tried putting out Niger seeds last year but they weren’t attracted. Happy that they are back again.

Our jackdaws and magpies tend to avoid each other. At our last house they were in constant combat and woke us most mornings.

It made me wonder, who's teaching who when I saw the magpies interacting, with the jackdaws, maybe a bit of both?
How lovely the finches are. It’s been an amazing year for them here. We have Goldfinches and Greenfinches in similar numbers to the house sparrows. Deafening!!
