Kidney Stones?

On 29th November I saw a doctor and gave a urine sample which contained blood (the doc said the colour was off her chart and I'd need a hospital referral).

The pain at that time was uncomfortable and I'd been having trouble passing water (stopping and starting, passing very small amounts). Kidney stone/s were mentioned as a possibility.

Unfortunately that evening after leaving the surgery the pain became unbearable and I couldn't pee at all. OH wanted to take me to A&E and I wish I'd let him. The following morning he phoned the doc and asked for some painkillers (doc hadn't prescribed any, or any antibiotics) so she prescribed Co-codamol and Buscopan.

The problem with peeing seemed to sort itself out - after about a day and a half I started going normally and the pain of being unable to pee had gone - except that it seemed to be replaced with diarrhea and pains in my stomach, with varying degrees of discomfort - sometimes very painful and sometimes not too bad. This has been going on for nearly two weeks. I've been eating very little as I can't face food, consequently my stools are mostly liquid.

The doc advised that I need a scan and there's quite a long waiting list but she will mark me down as urgent. She did say that if the pain becomes severe again, or if I can't pee at all, I should take myself off to A&E.

My question is that I have a relative who has recently gone through kidney stone problems and he says that I shouldn't wait in case things get worse - he says I need checking out ASAP. There's a long waiting list and I know there will be others more worthy of quicker treatment than me, but could this quickly become life-threatening and the worse happen? (Sorry, I know that's probably like asking how long is a piece of string).

Also, I take Metformin for diabetes along with blood pressure tablets and Lansaprozole but I have been sick a few times and brought some of them back up - should I retake them, or is it okay to miss the occasional dose?

only to say that if you've got unbearable pain yes, you should go to A&E, and stop worrying about others who might or might not be sicker than you, just go.

Yes, your full and helpful post does bring the diagnosis of kidney stones into the picture.
However, my main concern is the diarhoea, which may indicate that your kidneys are stating to complain
No it is not life threatening but certainly needs some blood tests and a call to your GP, explaining your concern over the association with kidney stones and you stomach problems indicating perhaps a kidney or kidneys that are showing signs of damage.

No panic at the moment, but contact your GP tomorrow.

I've just had this, apparently one of my thyroids is producing too much calcium, I'm waiting for a referral then an operation, luckily its not come back, too say it was painful is an understatement, it happened overnight, no matter how I stood, sat or led the pain across my lower back, left kidney and down into my groin was intense, I took two Naproxen and eventually the pain went and I got some sleep.

I had some bloods taken and some urine samples, I had blood in the urine, the nurse that took my bloods said she has had it and the closest thing she could compare it to is child birth.

I'm annoyed that I didn't go to A&E when I was in so much pain.

Earlier that day I'd waited for a while to see a doctor and a film clip kept coming up on the screen in the waiting room, about how so many patients go to A&E when they shouldn't. Lesson learned.

Update.....couldn't get through to doctor, received a text asking me (and presumably all the other patients) not to contact the surgery due to excessive demand - instead I should ring 111 for medical advice or 999 if medical emergency.

Long story short - I have an appointment for a scan on 29th December, letter came through in the post this morning.
