A light hearted question. Am I alone in finding very young human babies very unappealing and very uncuddly, but find all furry animal babies appealing and cuddly. Mum's with new babies seem to ask if I want to hold their babies. No I don't! No way.

You are far from alone, MissT. I loved my two children dearly but I'm not clingy. I did my best for them for their sakes but wasn't distraught when they went their own way. I was happy they were both independent souls who would do well. We're close but don't need to be with each other. When grandchildren arrived the other gran and great gran were obsessed and so...

I love holding new babies, especially my month old great grandson.
I think all new babies look like tiny versions on winston Churchill, don’t mind holding them though.
My sister aways felt like that. She likes them when they are toddlers. She has no children. She left it all to me! I love holding new babies..
I adore all animal contact, I love petting them but have never longed to cuddle babies. I'm not a gran yet and have no desire to be one either. Maybe I will if/when I am but having raised one child I find it an all consuming task with as many bad and worrying times as good.

We're close but don't need to be with each other.

When grandchildren arrived the other gran and great gran were obsessed and so clingy so I let them get on with it. I saw them of course and babysat now and again but being the crazy gran was enough and fun.
Much as I'd like to see my new Great Granddaughter I'm not itching and won't go to the UK for that. Chats about her and photos is enough for me.

And I am beginning to worry about how alike we are! ;-)

Obviously I loved cuddling my own baby. I never ever wanted a baby/babies, but loved him to bits. Never wanted another though.

I just don't find tiny babies in any way beautiful.
I like small babies well enough and enjoy cuddling them as long as I can give them back! I've just got the pics of my 4th gt-grandchild (Lottie) and am going a bit gooey, but I'm in no rush to get town to Devon to cuddle. We may get down this Summer for a family wedding and then i can meet her and her elder sister Freya (2).
Small animals are cuter!

So there are at least others like me! I really never considered children whe n we married. Had no desires ever to be a Mum. And have no desires to be a grandmother. It seems that my son and wife are much the same. I've never raised the subject with them.

Gness. I'm happy to be as mad as you!
My Mum always loved new babies when she had what she called ‘Mothering Time’ with them. Cuddling, basically. Me, I like it when they become ‘little people’ and their little characters begin to appear.
Of course there are others, MissT. My daughter didn't like children much when she was one so she's not going to have any and I'm delighted.
She has a great life, a fantastic career which takes her to places all over the world and a husband who feels just the same.
It does annoy her when friends with children visit and she has to move things they'll touch.....which tickles us....and as for the Sunday morning lie in with the papers...... :-)

Yes, Carolewhen they people little people they become interesting and look nicer too.

My Mum wasn't interested in babies either, but loved her grandson to bits after the baby stage. -
My mum didn't like babies. Never wanted any. Didn't want grandchildren. She was a jolly soul. ;-)
While I hope one day to be a grandmother, I too am not enamoured of/with ?? the babies of others. I was quite excited when I became pregnant though we'd not been trying. I was happy to be having a girl, and had no interest in having another. Though it would have benefited my daughter to have a sibling. I looked forward to when we could converse and have proper conversations.

I love love new born babies the smell, tiny wee toes and fingers .
When my son was born, Pasta I was surrounded by relatives and in-laws who knew it all. I was dizzy with conflicting advice.
When my daughter was born we were in Canada. It was so much better. No relatives or know everything friends.

I brought her home from hospital and we had a chat. I'm your mother like it or not you're stuck with me. What I say goes til you're older. No tantrums. You sleep through the night and you develop a liking for Guinness. She has been brilliant...though the Guinness is still a work in progress. ;-)

Much the same as my son and wife Gness. She runs a business from home and he has so many interests. They love their lifestyle and their dog! We get to look after a dog rather than babies which suits me fine!

I can understand not everybody would be enamoured with holding someone else's baby, but your own children and grandchildren are a different thing altogether.
Remember a cousin of mine who had grandchildren before me and she said, you think you couldn't love anyone as much as you love your children, but wait until you have grandchildren, and I said Oh no, I could never love them as much as my own children but I was wrong.
I have 5 grandchildren and I love them to pieces.
The highlight of my week is when 2 yr old Molly comes running down the hall shouting Nanna, Nanna where are you and then she throws her arms round my legs.
I'm sad because I know my daughters won't be having any more children so as I said earlier, I just hope I can be alive long enough to meet at least 1 great-grandchild.
I'm sure you will, Barsel. It is odd though to be looking at someone so far down the line who is here because of you.
I know. Don't know if you saw a post that had something to do with Ancestry and I posted how I found the grave of my great grandparents and there was no headstone and it was just neglected. I stood there and cried which I thought was quite strange as I never met them but they are connected to me and I sort of felt that.
