I didn't see the show, but at a guess I would say that the answer was 'chess'.  There weren't too many  board games around.  There is a French version of 'Scrabble' by the way - it gets a bit tricky when you add in the accents.

Yes, TWAU with this one. At least they didn't say Balderdash (that was a funny game) or Trivial Pursuit.

But did they give  achoice of answers? Yes, chess was banned by him, but various sites say he banned  backgammon and a range of table games involving dice.
