City break

Me and a few friends fancied going away together this year for a city break. I quite fancied trying either amsterdam or maybe prague, i know thats what everyone seems to do, so any similar suggestions would be appreciated. But i've just had a look on some of the budget airline websites and the flights seemed more expensive than i was expecting. Has anyone done a similar thing or been to these places recently and if so can you tell me how much i could expect the transport and the accommodation to cost? Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

If you can travel midweek rather than at a weekend you will find the flights cheaper. Returning on a Saturday afternoon/evening is also off peak.

We go to Amsterdam every year for a short break.We always book way in advance hence the cheap flights.Some central accomodation is a bit tatty.We stayed once at the Remabrandt and it was fab but was a good walk from Dam Sq and at 3 in the morning you dont want that.The accomodation in my experience is generally �75 per double room per night.

As you leave the station and walk up the main drag there is a little accomodation shop which caters most budgets.I wouldnt generally recommend this but we always go in there for direction and they are so friendly.

Amsterdam is simply stunning - I never tire of it.Believe Praque is as well and like you we would love to go.

Dont think you will be disappointed either way.

Thanks for your replies. Getting 4 or 5 people to have time off at the same time is gonna be difficult: so was gonna fly on a Thursday and back on Sunday/Monday, so that probably why the flights are expensive. Can either of you tell me which airlines that you fly with? Also do either of you know if it is much cheaper to go by ferry?

Easy Jet are the cheapest.Your outward will be cheap - inward shouldnt be too bad given its Sun or Mon ( Sun for people getting back for work,Monday for businessmen travelling to UK).That is just for Amsterdam My bet would be on a Monday return.Book as far in advance as you can.

Sorry - ferries take too long and are actually probably more expensive in the long run as you spend on the ferries.You then have the journey from Rotterdam.

Forgot to say you are brave taking either city on for 4 days.

My first trip to Dam was 4 nights - thought I had gone 12 rounds with Ricky Hatton.Fab tho!!!Safest city I have ever been to.(Just ignore the drug peddlers - they soon get the message - they are the only nuisance)
