Does anyone else find it very frustrating when people who don't know how to look after dogs get one? It makes me so mad that anyone can go out and get a dog and ruin its life! People get dogs they have no clue about and blame it on the dog when problems start. Why don't you need a licence to have any dog so they don't end up in clueless homes, rescue centres or in the hands of someone who'll mistreat them!!

Don't get me started on this one!

I don't agree with a licence, but think there should be a test before allowing people to own a dog.

I think what annoys me most is when the dog is exercised for about ten minutes a day, and then only because he will foul a public place instead of his garden.
What annoys me most is that many people let them bark continuously without a thought for their neighbours!I used to have a dog, but would never let him go on endlessly.
I think people shouldn't be able to just buy dogs for no reason without knowing about dogs, they think because almost every house hold has a dog or 2 that they are easy too look after, I have 3 dogs and know how to look after them, we have a huge garden and a field across the road and my dogs (staffs) go out everyday. If people had licences in the first place the gorgeous pitbull wouldn't be illegal because they wouldn't have been used for such bad purposes if they had licences in the first place.

Exactly! In my job (looking after other peoples dogs) i see so many dogs who are bought for fashion or status symbols, i.e staffies, rotties, GSD and they turn out hyperactive (staffies), biters (rotties) or terrified of their own shadow (GSD). Then the owners come to us, expecting us to sort their mess. It breaks my heart to see people crossing the road when im walking a rottie, just to get away because they think they'll bite them. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners!!
If the dog is brought up properly and trained, any dog is a good dog. I must admit were I live in a rough part of liverpool I do see alot of pitbulls without licences used to fight, protect people. My bitch (Staffie) called Kia, she's not vicious but she will protect me, but I'm hoping thats just because she loves me. With me only being 15 years old and I take Kia everywere with me at night etc, my dad thinks it's good that she protects me. In a way it is good. She'd never bite anyone for nothing unless you put your fist to me like you was going to punch me. My brother was fighting with me and kia bit him on the arm, he wasn't badly injured but my dad wouldn't let me shout at her because she's protecting me. Also my dads very protective of me so having Kia means I can stay out later and things like that.

I got my first rottweiler 19 years ago and the same for my first GSD,my GSD's have never been timid my rotties have never been biters but this is because they have been brought up properly they are well behaved dogs.Never have i ever had a nasty dog but i remember just after i got my first rottie there was all that bad press about them and suddenly, everywhere you looked was rotts all owned by the same sort of people like someone else has just said, status symbols, now its staffs, these people are the exact reason there are so many nasty dogs out there giving others a bad name, and so many strays.

Hey Snappy,

I know where your coming from. My neighbors had a dog that they would let loose when they woke up at 3:00 in the afternoon (no joke). The poor thing was so bored he would take after my cattle for a little excitement. I talked to the owners on four seperate occasions and finally got the police involved. Then I came home from a buisness trip and found 3 mauled calves, one missing an entire ear, one dead calf and a dead goat. I found out that they had watched the whole thing happen and were too affraid to try and stop their own dog. It's ridiculous.
