Eagle baby hatches ????

I took this picture at 12.30am our time of Ezzy changing position. It also gives a clear picture of the eggs, but no chick.

In the Forum it says a chick hatched at 9.30pm our time so there seems to be a bit of confusion. Understandable as we're all in a bit of a state just waiting for 'our babes' to show themselves.

Robinia has just given a link on the original post that definitely says the first chick was emerging 1.35 Pacific Time. At long last.......... :D

still doesn't make sense tho' Cetti does it? - if it hatched yesterday afternoon we should have seen it 8 hrs later ie last night.....? or am I being terribly blonde today?

I know, my brain couldn't cope either so I let husband work it out and he said 9pm our time, but as you see there ain't no baby.....all very odd.

I've been outside this afternoon but things still look the same. One post in the forum says it was a false alarm - it's too slow to read any more threads on there. I think someone was staring at the screen to long & was hallucinating!

Not long got in & couldn't wait to see if there were any developments, but alas the screen is blank at the mo'!

It's up to you about this post, but it probably won't go until Tuesday anyway, it depends how long we're to be 'home alone' on here..... :o)

Yes you're right Robinia, I forgot it's playtime till Tuesday. Perhaps something might happen before then...

What is so strange is that I would imagine birds 'know' if something is wrong the same way as animals do - and our pair although a bit more agitated than usual don't seem bothered. I'm trying so hard to convince myself that all is well.......

I loved that bit of film Cetti, watching Ezzy bringing home the bacon, or was it a fish or rodent?

How anyone could have thought there was a chick in the nest I'll never know & that was without my pc spec's on!

But they are behaving the same, so maybe things are just going slowly....

oh dear, it looks very bad today ....extract from the website...

".....This is a sad moment. It appears that the Hornby Island bald eagle eggs are infertile. The first egg should have hatched April the 26 and the second egg today. The first embryo, if it developed at all, is surely dead. The second embryo, could still hatch but I cannot see the proper pipping of the egg shell, where the chicks beak has broken through enabling it to draw in air, the precursor to the final struggle for hatching. It does not look good for this pair this year. In fact this is the second year of failure for this nest territory....."

I'm not ashamed to say your news made me weep Robinia, and I know I won't be the only one shedding a few tears. Watching night and day for almost a month and then this is bound to have some kind of emotional effect, isn't it? Even though we knew something was wrong we still had hope, didn't we?

I've just read the post from David Hancock and it looks as though the pair were past the chick bearing age, bless 'em. A case of the spirit being willing but let down by the old body. So, so very sad.
