My husband and I watch COPS on sky, its real life day to day work of the American police patrol, if some people haven't seen it. What we would like to know is what is a State Trooper and what is his rank and status. Thanks in advance. X X X :-)
A State Trooper is another name for a Highway Patrolman in most states. They are State police as as opposed to County or City law enforcement personnel. They are usually assigned, as the name indicates, to patrolling of state highways including the Inter-state system. They are, however called on to assist local police in many matters. They are ranked from Patrolman to Sargeants and do have officers that are the usual military rankings...
Unlike a local sherif or deputies or city police, the State police govern and patrol the highways and interstate of that perticular state. They rule the roads of that state and are very powerfull. A good rule of thumb is You don't mess with the State Patrol.
For he who dares... Sherrifs are elected by ballot by the populace for each County within a State, whereas 'marshals' is a collective noun for U.S. Marshals. They deal primarily with U.S. Federal law enforcement, but assist, on request local and State lawenforcement. They are also the providers of the Air Marshals who provide security on airline flights, undercover... These are the guys (and women) you really don't want to mess with!
