Size of house spiders
8 Answers
How big can house spiders become?
I've just seen 2 in my conservatory with a body of around 1 inch and legs over 2 inches each. Their overall size was about the size of my palm! We are definitely talking tarantula sized here!
I'm usually a big girl about spiders anyway, but this time I'm not exaggerating. Thing is, they look just like oversized house spiders, but could they be, or is there something more sinister in my room????
(By the way, I'm in Yorkshire, not anywhere exotic where you'd expect to find humungous beasties!)

It gives a couple of good websites to look at. We had an enormous spider on our wall, which must have been at least 6 ft wide. Okay I am exagerating just a little.......I think from looking at the website, it was the Wolf spider which apparently is quite common in the UK. Wonder if this may be your little beauties?
Thanks guys - jno, I did NOT need to see that, thank you, I'm jittery enough today ;-)
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of china dolls post - I did search before I posted this, honest, but I seemed to miss that one.
My skin is crawling as I type this (not literally, thankfully!), but I am now quite reassured that they were just ordinary spiders. I'm not taking any chances though, I've shut the door and am leaving it for Mr X to investigate when he gets home!
Thanks again.

Euuugghhh...don't mention spiders...we have wood floor...sat watching tv the other night - a massive one skated (yes, it had skates on) across the floor - from under the sofa...he was huge - naomi campbell would'v been jealous of the legs...they say its global warming making them bigger - I say that they are eating toooo many pies...!! AAhhhh...!!
Well, I'm sleeping easier now! Mr X caught one of the monsters (with our 5year old as backup in case it attacked!) - it was wearing a flat cap and doc martens, smoking a pipe and everything! I'm afraid the other one had to go to the great web in the sky.
I'm grateful for all your replies, and sorry for spooking anyone!
