why are magpies bad luck

The superstition is that Satan takes the form of a magpie when he comes to earth looking for souls.

The way to defeat him varies - some say you simply salute, others say you salute and say "Good morning Satan and all your children." but what ever method is used, his recognition means he cannot harm you.

Isn't it bad luck if you see only one bird , without its partner ? I don't know the reason !

I thought it was only bad luck to see 1 as they mate for life so only seeing one means they lost there mate!

your luck depends on how many you see together.

...mmm....they are definately bad luck for any birds owning a nest that these nasty creatures come across.........they will eat anything including the young they find in these nests.........right little horrors they are...............:-(
