I was down by the river the other day in sunny old buckinghamshire and noticed some odd looking geese, when i got home i had a look in the trusty bird book but the only thing i could match them to was the egyptian goose-but it doesnt migrate. Although they look very much like geese they did sound like ducks so Im wondering if they could be some kind of big duck but cant find anything in the book that matches. Can anyone shed any light on what they might be?? Thanks
there are quite a few Egyptian Geese living wild in the UK- up to a thousand- particularly on the Norfolk Broads where 90% of them reside. A few have spread elsewhere. They were originally escapees from collections. So its quite likely you have seen some.
