this is a popular urban myth, based on confusion. The UK crane fly, or 'daddy long legs' has no fangs or venom, and is harmless. There is however a 'daddy long legs' spider not native to the UK, which does have fangs and venom, and it will penetrate human skin, but the venom is far too weak to be harmful, and in a lot of cases, is not even felt.
