we want to get a rescue dog, and have so far seen two different dogs that we liked at the dogs trust. We have passed home visits (supposedly) and then at the 11th hour they have rung us up with what seems to me to be a stupid excuse as to why we cant have the dog. Last time it was the day before we were suppposed to pick him up!
Does anyone have any experience with the dogs trust (formerly canine defence league) Good or bad? im trying to work out whats going on in order to decide whether to look for another dog with them, so that i dont get my hopes up only to be let down again

What were the reasons they said you could not have the dog? Maybe they knew the dog you had selected would not have been suitable eg does not like being left alone, or does not like cats or children (if you have them). Without knowing their reasons it is hard to say.

Surely if they felt the dog was wrong for you then it has to be better than letting you have the dog and becoming attached then finding out you have to let it go back.

Not every dog is right in every home, selecting a rescue dog is so difficult, you are choosing a member of your family possibly for the next 10 years.
