Chlamidia in cats

Is this possible as my neighbour says her cat has it in his throat, the vet is treating it with anti-biotics. I thought it was a sexually passed-on disease, so how can this be (no silly answers please)

The vet said that they are just bugs that animals get, I think that they both attack the upper respitory system. George had bad gums.
I knew from an early age that Koala bears were prone to chlamidia but, like you, I just guessed that they were pretty horny little monsters.
