Warning to others.

Had a really bad scare this morning. My small Shih-tzu always sleeps at the bottom of our bed, but this morning she was inbetween our pillows. I moved her over to avoid either of us laying on her and she was lifeless. She was still very warm. I gently moved her about but she didn't move, so I gently breathed in her mouth a few times and eventually she came round and is ok now. She will be sleeping in her own bed from now on.

that's awful, hope both of you are okay. I worried about this when I got my cat, previously I only had big dogs. I am pretty fat and I was sure I was going to lie on him. I did lie on him once and he bit me.

I hope you and the little one are no longer shaking with shock.

Poor little thing! So glad you were able to get her to come round. Well done! How old is your little Shih-Tzu? I have a Shih-Tzu too, 6 years old, fawn and white coloured and he is an absolute delight! Sammy is rather big for a Shih-Tzu but is in great shape. So I know how worried you must have been. Sam is such a character, loves to visit patients in a nearby residential home and do tricks for them. He will hopefully soon be a PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog, visiting children in hospital. Sammy is a rather light sleeper though and reacts to anything making noises in the house or outside, alerting me either by gently pawing my leg / arm or if he thinks someone is trying to get into the house, he will bark. He watches over my 90 yr. old mother during the day and if she isn't feeling well comes and alerts me immediately. He does the same for any other person in the house - always gets whoever else is available if one of us is feeling unwell. A very sensitive and perceptive little fellow, our Sam! I do hope your little Shih-Tzu will be alright now. So best wishes from me and Sammy to you all.

I can't believe what I am reading.

Animals sleeping in beds!!! they should be confined to their own sleeping quarters. It is not natural for any animal to sleep in a bed.

Carakeel. Your dog sounds gorgeous. I have one 7yrs old and the little one 6yrs old. I am sure they make great PAT dogs as they love people.

CSG2306. Couldn't agree more. It is because she is so tiny that she gets away with a lot more than a larger dog would but from now on she will be sleeping in her own bed or with her sister on the floor. It is much safer. Thank goodness she is no worse for wear, but it could have been a different story.

I have six that sleep in a double bed with me. They all have their places, and I don't think they'd ever suffocate, because if I turn over and lie on one I get grizzled at!

They're better than a hot water bottle. And they don't nick the duvet.

I have always allowed my companions onto the bed, the dogs were lovely and warm and the cat was a bl**dy pest.

Hi Maggie 01

Same thing happened to my tiny yorkie,what eh fright eh? I thought I had lost her. She still tried to get there but after a long time I finally got her to sleep on top of the pillow at the side of the bed and I placed a pillow on the floor incase she toppled off. Hope your little one is fit and well bless her.

I�m sure you�ve already done this, but do get a vet to check her out. It could be the sign of an underlying heart problem and I�d want to know for sure it was a freak reaction.

15 years ago I watched my dog have her 1st heart attack (it was the 2nd that killed her) and she instinctively crawled under a desk as it was happening. It�s possible that your dog crawled to the pillows for the same reason, rather than it was that which caused her episode.

I�ve banished my current dog downstairs overnight because her snoring is too bad, but I know if there was anything serious wrong with her I�d probably want her in our room to monitor. That goodness you were there to resuscitate her this time.

Thank you everyone. She is fine today, although she still tried to sleep between the pillows last night. She always sleeps above my head along the headboard. She is safe there. She is just as scatty as ever today thank goodness. We call her velcro (nickname) but she is taking it a bit too far now. Baby Jane. Glad your little yorkie was ok. My shih-tzu is not much bigger than a yorkie.
