How can 2 female neutered cats be persuaded not to urinate all over the house? Litter tray is provided but they often don't use it

How i trained mine..... I put my cats in a large cage with only water, a bed and a litter tray. They shouldnt wee on thier bed as most cats are clean animals. so they should start using the tray. Or... If they go out at night start putting them out for an hour or so a couple of times during the day.
Mine dont use a litter tray at all, they just meow to go out.
Good luck

Thanks Frilly. Might be worth a try, however they're not my cats. I clean house for their owners who work all day. The cats used to be in or out, but now they have to stay out all day. The wee-ing is a recent thing.
Think that when cats wee it is a teritorial thing - also, apparently the smell of cleaning fluids, bleach etc is strong and ammonia based and can encourage animals to wee in order to mask that smell and reinforce their presence on the territory - just a thought when you mentioned cleaning.

Thanks Luckyweight, I haven't used bleach, but I don't know what their owners use to clean up after them. The lady I work for is an aromatherapist so there are all sorts of scented things in the house, candles etc. I don't notice much when I'm there, but when the owners return from work maybe they are using something that makes them think their territory is being invaded. I wonder what fragrance would upset cats
