Orange peel

What are the reasons for NOT putting orange peel on a compost heap , I always believed that all organic produce was ok to use?

It can make the compost very acidic - orange peel is also often impregnated with chemical preservatives. Ok in small quantities but you may not want to add too much as it will affect the overall quality of your compost.
