Chinas brutal market in cats and dogs for slaughter
30 Answers
Chinas brutal market in cats and dogs for slaughter supposedly closed last year.. but as todays Daily Mail p26-27 reveal, its booming as never before. Cages packed full of cats waiting to be sold to end up in tiger, phoenix and dragon soup. When taken from the cages for a customer the cats and dogs are half killed with an iron bar as clients want fresh meat. Thats a brief description - but the list of brutality goes on. To anyone who likes cats and dogs, I am sure it is obvious those responsible for this cruelty have crossed the line - including those who purchase animals for the meat and the consumers. This market for animal abuse is according to the Mail at three birds market in Guangzhou. Obviously there is something that needs to be done about about this.

Hi robin dearde
I read the article in the newspaper today. I was totally shocked at the pictures they printed too. I was reduced to tears.
Someone, somewhere must put a stop to this barbaric treatment of animals. As you said, it is obvious that they have crossed the line regarding cruelty. It is disgusting. I had to stop reading half way through as it upset me too much.

I agree megan07 but when you think about it, the sad thing is that the people who do this have been doing it so long that it has become second nature to them and they see no harm in it. Personally I would love to see anyone who abuses animals suffer a long agonizing death. If I was given written permission and was gauranteed no penalty of any kind signed by the president of the United States, I would kill them myself. I could think of many ways to do this but I think you could use your imagination.
I agree with peanut, it is second nature to these people, and dogs and cats are not pets or helpless creatures to them. I cant even read the articles in the paper it upsets me so much, and feel helpless as cant think what we can do. I think it would need to start with the government as they are the ones that allow this barbaric trade to continue. Perhaps we should start a petition and send it to where-ever to raise awareness of these issues? On a totally different scale, I read in the paper recently of some 'youths' who hung a dog from a tree and set fire to it. Apparently a number of local residents watched, but were frightened to intervene - I dont think I would have even considered my own safety if I had seen it.
Hi Pmjblue if you or any one else starts a petition please count me in and i will give you my E mail address how would we go about it do you think the RSPCA would have any advice to give us normally the news of the world are good at geting their readers to join in on sunday when i get the news of the world i will look for their NO: and give them a ring love megan
Contact the paper the article first appeared in - The Daily mail - Bombard them with letters & e- Mails. expressing your disgust. Could aso try: Any other papers also. RSPCA.. Government/Local goverrnment. TV Stations (Newsnight, Watchdog, Newsround etc) Bill Oddie, rolf Harris, Bob Geldoff, Brian May, Patric Moore (he likes cats - although he's a bit under the weather) - thats just a few sort of celebrity folks who spring to mind who seem reasonable - anyone else you can think of etc etc... Could petition also. But first get onto the paper wher the article first appeared would seem a good move - The Daily Mail.
I'm in the USA and this is a huge problem here. I absolutely hate the thought of these animals being abused. This problem is so large scale that I'm not so sure anything can be done. It's not legal to do these horrible acts but the penalties are a light tap on the back of the hand compared to what they should be. I've said it before and i'll say it again, AN EYE FOR AN EYE.
I was at the vet with Peanut two days ago getting him checked for toxins from a food recall. The technician pulled him out of his pet carrier by the back of his neck and kept pulling him against his will. Now it was game on, he was pi55ed. They were unable to get the blood from him at first because the more he resisted the harder they tried to force him. I was in the waiting room and heard him throwing a fit. I got up wondering what they were doing to him and just as I walked to the back room where they were treating him I saw one person wrap him in a blanket and pick him up and literally throw him into a cage and slam the door. It was clear that she was mad at Peanut. After that I will never bring him back there again. So this abuse even happens with the ones you trust with your pet.

megan or anyone else, if you find anything out, i have a lot of contacts in the dog world, and my friend runs a dog web site. What do we have do, have one central place to keep the petition, e mail people, and then add the names to it - apart from having contacts who would sign it, I have no idea how to go about this!!
peanut - dont know what happens over in the states, but I reported a vet over in the UK for a similar situation, when he threw my cat about for biting my husband - he was called up to the veterinary college for a statement, and stopped practising shortly afterwards. But it wasnt just on my complaint, he had done it several times. My husband reckons he was drunk.
Hi Guys.
I have just emailed the Daily Mail regarding the brutality and suffering those animals are going through.
I went into Daily Mail and typed in Tom Scott and Richard Jones. The article was written by them.
There have been 37 postings at present, so why not all give five minutes of your time and do the same.
Cheers.

Peanut - the vet was a mad man, found out later he had abused a lot of animals - I had never used him before, I always took the dogs somewhere else, but he was more local and the cat didnt like the car, so thought I would give him a go. The cat had a sore under his tail, and when he lifted it up he bit my husband who was holding him, then the vet smacked him all round the table, it was awful. Turned out he had spondylosis, but thats another story, fortunately he lived for a good few years after that, he was around 20 when he died. Anyway, off the record - my vet told me to report him to the royal veterinary college - you must have a similar system over there - found this site, you could email them to ask to advice - http://www.aavmc.org/
