It will eat some of the cuttlefish when it feels the need to. They eat very little of it. One piece may last one year for one canary.
If you sprinkle a few very small stones or gravel in the bottom of the water it will feel more confident to enter the bath. Before you know it he will be having a great time in the water.
You need to be careful when letting him out. First get him used to a visually easy to see tidbit that he really likes. Maybe a piece of carrot or spinach. Open the door and let it go out be itself. It may not even go out the first time. When it eventually has a fly - make sure the windows are not bare as they don't know what glass is - put his fav. food in the cage to entice him back in. You'll be surprised how quickly they learn things out of habit.
Good luck.
