Red Ants!!!!!

What is the best way to get rid of these things? my garden has mud piles all over it and when cutting my grass i realised they are red ant nests, ive tried the hot water and ant killin powder but they seem to survive, i just want to enjoy my garden with out the worry of getting bitten by them. please help!

Mix a bit of and water and sugar with the ant powder and put a few bits around each nest, keep pets away!!
