Update on the my post yesterday about the "stray" cat
18 Answers
I phoned the RSPCA this morning, hoping they could investigate, but they basically told me that if the cat is owned, then it is the owner's responsibilty. They asked me to go over the road, ask if it's their cat, and if it was then report it. Talk about incriminate myself!! I don't want to be on the firing line of a p***ed off neighbour! I just don't know what to do!

Be polite and just say your concerned or lie and say a friend of yours who was visiting noticed it and was really worried and so your just asking as your mate asked.
What the worse that could happen?
Or call your local vet describe the cat incase they know of the owner and ask the vet's advice.
GOOD LUCK!

i think take the matter into your own hands, whoever she belongs to or doesn't isn't the priority, the fact that she obviously needs medical treatment is.
If she does have an owner they are not looking after her very well and obviously don't care enough, get her treated it will make you feel better - and puss x

Ahhh....The good old RSPCA....
Fact....the RSPCA will not help unless there is a camera crew about!!!
You are obviously concerned and upset by the state of this kitty!! If you feel un-comfortable about approaching your neighbours concerning this.....take a mate with you.
My advice....for what it's worth.....
Aqquire cat box
Catch cat
Knock door to door and show cat
No joy? Keep trying!!!
No joy still!
Go to shop
Buy loads of scrummy fresh fish
Feed cat
Keep it....[may need feeding until to fat to move ;o] ]
If you can not keep kitty, phone the Cat Protection League....who are far more use than the RSPCA

I had a similar situation at my old house - an lovely tortoiseshell cat who was so friendly. She was a stray but the house opposite had kind of "adopted" her in the way of feeding her, although she still slept outside and was not spayed. I watched her get pregnant twice in a short space of time before mentioning it to my neighbours who said they didn't want to pay for it as she wasn't their cat!
So when I realised she was pregnant again, I thought enough was enough! I caught her and took her to the Cats Protection. A few weeks later I rang them to see how she was doing and they told me that she had given birth to 5 healthy kittens although she had had a bad birth and one of the kittens had got stuck. If she had not had help both she and the kittens would have died.
She and all her kittens have now been rehomed (now spayed) so all's well that ends well and I don't feel one bit sorry for intervening!!
Good luck in whatever you decide!

I went over to the house, but nobody was home. I have now put a very polite note though the door, saying I thought this house had been sold recently, but had noticed their cat was still around, and could they please call me to let me know if the cat is their pet. Hopefully, they will call me, deny all knowledge of the cat then I can scoop her up and get her seen to.
Excellent news on the cat front. I just received a phone call from the house opposite. The cat is not a strat, but a much loved family pet called Corky...and the reason for her mangy appearance is that she is 19 years old!! The lasy said she still looked like a adolescent cat up until quite recently when she has started looking like she does. She said she eats well, but has taken to staying outside all of the time, only coming in for meals, and refuses to be brushed. She was a lovely woman, and really appreciated that aomeone was woried arout her cat. I am just so relieved that the little pussy cat does have a loving home after all.
