why do insects tend to bite humans on the legs between the ankle and the knees

Because that's where there a a huge vein! Also often bare skin.

have they got rada for blood
I got bitten twice by a horsefly on my arm last Sunday, ended up in A&E. I don't notice any difference I just seem to be hugely attractive to any biting fly or insect, anytime anyplace.
'Cos they're usually close to ground level when you walk by wearing your shorts.
