potty training

Our 2 1/2 year old son is doing really well at his potty training, He is in pants all day and accidents are far and few between....but when it comes to doing number 2's hes just not interested.He seems to hold it in until bed time or will only do it if we put him in a nappy or a pair of pull ups.We have tried to put him on the potty or toilet but he just gets to up set, and we dont want to push him to hard because he does so well with weeing on the potty. Any help would be great ty..

hi my son is the same age and has just started being dry in the day, but like your son he dont like doing a poo on toilet or potty. my advice is just let him do it in his own time. dont give in and put pull ups on him cause he will do it eventually. my son goes 2 or 3 days without doing it then he just gives in. i spoke to my health visitor to see if it was ok to be holding it in for this long and she said it is fine. just keep asking him all the time and let him know that it is ok, cause some children think it is a bad thing

Have you tried a reward chart? My daughter was like this and pooed in her pants for ages! She did respond to a chart eventually though and I found the less fuss I made the better. She just announced she needed a poo one day and I was busy unpacking shopping so I said go on the toilet then yourself then ignored her. She did it! It was a fab moment and she got loads of praise and never did it in her pants again

It can be hard for kids to believe that everyone uses a loo when these days it's never seen.
So constant reassurance that everyone he knows (insert list of names!) does in fact use a toilet each day. Demonstrations can be a big help too! Good luck.

My eldest was exactly the same. We never had any accidents - ever - and he always did a poo in his pull-up the moment I put it on him for bed. It drove me mad, but I took my HV's advice (which is opposite to advice from ethanryan's HV by the way) She said that as long as he's CHOOSING where and when to go, then there's no problem at all. He has control over his bowel, he's not having accidents, and he's not going in inappropriate places. All she advised me to do was to wait, because one day, he'd choose to use the loo.

He was just over three when one day he stood up in the bath, announced he needed a poo, and I plonked him on the loo straightaway. All went well, and he never had another problem. In fact, the next day, we were in Sainsbury's and he said he needed to poo. I thought "now there'll be trouble" (because he'd never asked to go during the day, waited for the bedtime pull-up etc etc) but he went to the public loo and we NEVER LOOKED BACK!!!!!

It'll happen when he's ready, just keep asking. Once that switch in his head is turned on, he'll never turn it back off again, I promise. Good luck - try not to let it get you down xxx
