Birds, reptiles, insects, mammals (including Man), fish, anything alive that is not a plant is an animal.
There are some arguments about the clasification of animals/plants like algae which are on the borderline, just as there is disagreement on whether a virus is life, but nothing to worry about in regard to your question.
webbo3, I have just checked out your link and this shows the pitfalls of relying on official looking reference libraries. I did not mean to sound so snotty above but I can definitely assure you that a human is very much an animal. We even have our own taxonomic classification; Homo sapiens sapiens
Im sure you are both correct, but Im going for the simplistic view and say that a bird is a bird and not an animal.
In my world a bird has feathers, claws, talons, a bill and can sing or screech, whilst an animal has fur, hooves, pads, a nose that runs and a tail that wag or swishes!
Cetti - a bird is an animal, not a mammal! I think this is where people get confused. All living things that aren't plants are animals. There are different classes of animals - birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, amphibians, etc. Hope this helps, K x
I didn't say it was a mammal Kleiber, I said a bird was just that - a bird.
As I also said it was a simplistic view and not a scientific one, but no one on earth will tell me different or make me change my mind.
I didn't say it was a mammal Kleiber, I said a bird was just that - a bird.
As I also said it was purely a simplistic view and not a scientific one. Still, no on earth will tell me different or make me change my mind.
Cetti, you got me wrong, luv. I wasn't saying that YOU said "mammal" - I was only trying to explain a misconception that a lot of (other!) people have. K xx
Anything that lives, breathes, and has a heartbeat is an animal. We humans, however, are not. God created us in his own image. Therefore, if we are made in His image and you still believe that we are animals, than that means that God is an animal as well. PEOPLE ARE NOT ANIMALS, BUT ALL OTHER THINGS THAT LIVE ARE!!
The natural world is made up of three categories of things: animal; vegetable and mineral. The animal category includes: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals - even insects!
Birds are animals and the definition by category only really gets a bit confusing when we look at sea anemones – which in spite of their name and apparent plant-like anchorage are in fact predatory animals related to jellyfish!
Humans are definitely animals (primate mammals to be specific) - and if there is a God and we are made in his image - then he's an animal too (or his image is!)
