eww slugs in the house

I live in the sticks, and since this spate of cold weather slugs have decided to enter the bathroom area, any ideas why, also how can I dispose of them humanly, and ensure they do not come in ever again?

I had them coming into my living room years ago. I never saw them but I used to see their trails all over the carpet. I looked for gaps under the skirting boards and filled them any with kitchen roll. They haven't been able to get in since.
