Worker honey bees take about three weeks from egg to bee (mostly as a grub).
When they hatch, they work in the hive for a bit, then forage (for nectar, pollen, water and gum) for about another month. Then they die.
It works out at around 5 to 10 g of honey harvested per bee. A short life, but they get to spend their days smelling the flowers...
In the winter they live longer, as they're not working.
