Watched this film on DVD and I am sure a chicken is badly injured when a soldier falls on it.

What do you think ?

I thought this type of thing was not allowed in film making.

A duck that was walking backwards?

You shouldn't have taken it to the vet. You should have phoned Blue Peter, or That's Life.
Errr yes, I would stop for anything that was injured alongside a road be it an animal, chicken or child though I may draw the line at bugs.
In that case BOO, I commend your compassionate nature, and I take it all back. I feel a bit bad now.
Yes, it was walking backwards as a result of an attack by another duck and being concussed. And yes, I did take it seriously and I suspected brain damage. And I was right and the vet was happy to treat it.

Some people would obviously laugh at it on a television programme, but not me! So I'm a bit cranky but I am happy that way.
I prefer veggie dishes anyway loftie but my bloke is partial to a roast and chickens his fave. I have taken many a duck to the old lady near the duck pond to get mended
Probably just as well you didn't put it on the telly. The career path for birds is a bit poor.

1. Ridiculed on TV.

2. Small acting part.

3. Role in major movie.

4. Fallen on and injured by one of the cast.

5. Ridiculed on AnswerBank 35 years later.
Well so is my bloke 4get, but that's too bad!! He only gets a free range chicken about once a month now.

I commend you for your duck rescue operation ;o)
I do have to admit that I didn't watch the clip in question as it would have upset me and also I didn't realise the film was 35 years old. Not being a great film fan, I thought perhaps Doc_Spock was talking about a remake.

I won't watch the film clip, but I am sure this sort of thing would be less likely to happen nowadays, although accidents can happen to chickens as well as humans!

Still don't like the joking though!
I know what you mean LoftyL.

And although it was 35 years ago, I'm sure that that chickens descendants would like to see his memory treated with a bit more respect.

Oh no ... they all just got eaten. Okay, forget that.
One of the worse things I experienced was driving behind a lorry loaded with chicken crates of live chickens from a factory farm. The tailgate of the lorry had fallen open and the chicken crates were falling off all over the road and the chickens (who couldn't walk or fly) were being scattered far and wide with traffic trying to avoid them. The lorry driver was unaware and taking no notice of me sounding the horn continuously and flashing my headlights.

The worse thing was having two children in the car who were absolutely mortified at the spectacle. I eventually had to turn off that road about two miles further on but the lorry driver carried on, distributing his load.

The evidence of this was on the road and verges for weeks.
Why have we been assuming that this original chicken was "badly injured"?

As it got up and staggered about, it seems more likely that it was just a bit shaken up.

The film is old but I won't be watching the clip and yes, conditions re filming have improved.

However, the original question sparked off a huge debate that could go on and on.

I know who I agree with on all counts.

I and many people have a great respect for life, whatever the species, and the jokes were not appreciated.

Lets not even get started on the cow slaughtering scene in Apocalypse Now...

Can I just say that after I said I dont eat that much chicken I went round my mums for dinner and she'd made me chicken sandwiches with chicken soup. lol
I hope you refused them ;o)
ok this should not have been allowed to happen there is an animal law against this kind of thing you can report it to the RSPCA but there are onormally animal inspecters on scene to check that now animals are harmed during the making of ANY FILM!!! but the chicken may not be injured it may just be in shock!!!
It was a firm made thirty five years ago Kirsti. Things have changed since then and I doubt if the RSPCA would be very interested after all this time.
