my dog all of a sudden is drinking alot, she has never been a big drinker, she is 12.

Could be her kidneys ,hope not but best to get her checked out good luck x

she doesnt wee alot probs about 4 or 5 times in a day
As cris r says, it could well be kidney problems, especially as she is quite an old dog. I don't think the amount of times she wees is necessary relevant to kidney problems.

It can also be caused by liver problems, cystitis or diabetes, amongst other things (including a change to dried food or just simply hot weather).

I think you should get her checked out asap.

Don't worry too much. These illnesses can be treated and sometimes cured. Hope she is OK Liza.
If I may add it could also be a sign of thyroid problems.Good luck with your lady,hope things work out ok for her.g.

my dog started drinking a lot and ended up getting 10 teeth out which stopped the problem! she was 5 years old so get the vet to check the dogs teeth first!
