I used to work from home, so owning dogs was no problem, I was nearlly always there, but if I did dare to go out for an hour or so, boy did they object, especially my Golden retriever, Robbie. In a short space of time he could do untold damage. These days I would cage him for his own security, but back then I didn't know about cages. One day I came home from a brief shopping trip to find he'd eaten 4 woolly bobble hats (worn in our sports car), and the bottom 4 feet of stair carpet, Others included tea towels, socks, carrier bags etc, Luckily he survived all this and matured into a lovely well behaved dog who rarely put a paw out of line.
